Hi Beth,

This story you read to us, fighting tears as you read the story, today to MSU Moorhead employees who volunteer to help raise money for United Way and the Combined Charities Campaign at MSUM, was a novelette with an unexpected ending. It was a personal story that turned into an enlightening lesson about how, with incredibly caring and skilled Hospice employees and volunteers, a broken-hearted family will gradually find in their hearts peace and acceptance in the loss of a beloved human; memories forever kept in a special place in the heart. Thank you for speaking to us about your personal experience with Hospice. Jan A.

Beth,

This is beautifully written. I wasn't expecting the little girl to be your daughter! What a truly breathtaking moment for you to observe your child showing so much love and compassion for others (both alive and deceased).

Thank you for sharing!

Dear Ms. Smedsrud,
What an excellent and cogent article on dementia, and I couldn't agree with you more that inadequate, or mismanaged end-of-life care of dementia patients is much more prevalent in our nursing homes than anyone might expect..---Alan D. Cato MD, F.A.A.F.P. (past), and author of The Medical Profession Is Dead and the Doctor Is “Critically ill!” (Oct., 2010)

What a wonderful article. Talking about dying is hard; tender questions make it easier to start the conversation.
